Reds Outlast Diamondbacks to Take Rubber Game

The Reds did a nice job of pulling this one out despite trailing for most of the game. In fact the Reds never had the lead in this one until it counted. They went down 1-0 and then Chris Dickerson singled home a run a to tie it. Another run was given up in the sixth and then Jerry Hairston, Jr. scored on a ground it in the ninth to send it into extra frames. Then Joey Votto came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth to give the Reds the win.

Aaron Harang didn’t get the win, but what a start. He gave up the two runs on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in seven frames. Then the sub-2.00 ERA boys came in and pitched a no-hit inning each to close out the game. Nick Hassett struck out one as did Daniel Ray Herrera. Francisco Cordero walked three in the ninth but he got out of his own jam to pick up his first win of the season.

Joey Votto went four for six and he had that big walk off RBI. Ryan Hanigan also had a nice game and went three for three with a walk.

That puts the Reds 2 1/2 games back although the Brewers are losing early to the Cubs so it could be two by the end of the night. The Cardinals come into town tomorrow and Homer Bailey throws in the opener. Joel Pineiro throws for the Cardinals.
