While former Red and Cutting Edge favorite Adam Dunn was rounding the bases with a homerun in the WBC, the Reds bullpen was getting ripped to shreds by the Blue Jays. Jared Burton was the first suspect and while he’s been solid for the Reds the past two seasons, the was knocked around for three runs on four hits in an inning. Then Robert Manuel, who had a very nice season for the Lookouts last season, was touched for three runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Of course there was some good. Homer Bailey pitched four strong and while he gave up six hits, just one of those crossed the plate. He didn’t walk a batter and he struck out one. Hopefully he can keep this up. Bill Bray and Aaron Fultz each threw a shutout inning each.
It was another lackluster game for the hitters. Let’s just say that six hits isn’t going to cut it. Daryle Ward had a hit and two walks while Norris Hopper singled, drew a walk and scored a run.
Tomorrow, it’s more Blue Jays action as they finish up their home and home. Micah Owings gets the nod and hopefully we’ll get to see him pitch into the fourth inning at least.
