Reds Drop Game 3, but Take Series

Cincinnati lost the final game of the scheduled 3 game series against the New York Yankess on Sunday, 4-1. The Reds did take the series though winning it 2 games to 1. They now look at a record of 35-42 but still sit at the bottom of the NL Central.

The offense seemed to struggle in the final game after looking good in the previous 2. Ken Griffey Jr. played well for the Reds in game 3 going 1-for-3 getting his 8 homer of the season. He now has his batting average at .249 with a total of 32 RBI. He was the only source of runs for the Reds. Brandon Phillips had a solid game but didn’t get the chance to drive in any runs. He went 2-for-3 and now has a batting average of .271.  Joey Votto also collected 2 hits going 2-for-4.

Johnny Cueto took the mound for the Reds and pitched a solid game. He worked 5 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run and 7 strike outs. Despite his strong play he failed to get his 6th win of the season. He now has a record of 5-8 with the loss and an ERA of 5.01. The next 3 relievers that came in for work didn’t play quite as well as Cueto. Combinded they allowed 7 hits, 3 runs, and 1 walk. The poor play by relievers closed the deal on the Reds coming back.

Not a good finale for the Reds but a strong series against the powerful Yankees. They will now get a day off on Monday and begin a series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
