The Reds dropped the final game of the 3 game series with the Boston Red Sox over the Weekend. The Sox took the series 2 game to 1. The Reds now look at a 33-38 record and continue to sit at the bottom of the NL Central.
Game 3 of the series went to the Red Sox in a blowout victory going 9-0. The offense for the Reds was a complete non-factor only getting half as many hit that the Sox produced. The only effective hitter for the Reds came fromĀ Joey Votto who went 3-for-4 including a his 14th double of the year but he didn’t get any help as none of his teammates could drive him home. On Bostons side they hit 4 homers off Cincy pitching and were pretty much getting anything they wanted. Crisp, Ellsbury, Drew and Pedroia all went deep for the Sox and put the Reds out of the game from the get go.
Homer Bailey took the mound for the Reds and was absolutely dominated by Boston bats. He worked just 2.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 5 runs, all earned and 3 homers. He was given the loss for the game bringing his record to 0-3 with 8.76 ERA. The next few relievers that entered the game didn’t have any better luck as they pitched a combined 8 hits and 4 runs. Josh Beckett took the mound for the Red Sox and dominated the Reds working 7 innings allowing 6 hits, 0 runs and 6 strike outs. His record now stands at 7-4 with a 3.87 ERA.
A series victory over the defending champs would have been nice but the way the Reds have been playing lately we couldn’t have expected much. They will need to get things going if they want to make their mark in the NL Central. Cincy will now open up a series with theĀ Dodgers on Tuesday after their day off on Monday.
