Cincinnati won the final game of the 4 game series with the Florida Marlins on Monday, 9-4. The win gives the Reds a road victory that they desperately needed making their road record 12-24. They now look at a season record of 31-4 but they continue to bottom out in the NL Central.
The Reds offense is really the force that pushed them by the Marlins to get the victory. Ken Griffey Jr. had a strong game for the Reds going 1-for-4 including a homer with 2 RBI and a run scored. He now has his batting average up to .260 with a total of 7 home runs. Paul Bako had a great gamegoing 2-for-4 with 5 RBI and a run scored. He went deep 2 time once in the 2nd and again in the 9th. His home run total is now up to 6 with 20 RBI. Brandon Phillips also played well going 2-for-5 wth 1 RBI and a run scored. He hit a homer as well getting his 12th of the year.
Edinson Volquez took the mound for the Reds and pitched a very good game. He worked 6 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 runs all earned and 5 K’s. He earned the win for his club bringing his record to 9-2 with a 1.56 ERA. The next 4 relievers that entered the game only allowed just 2 hits and 1 run. They also struck out 3 batters during their time in the game.
A good game for the Reds that gets them back on the winning track. Hopefully they can put together a few more wins to get them at the .500 mark. They will get that chance against the Cardinals on Tuesday.
