Cincinnati lost the final game of the 3 game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday 7-2. The Reds did take the series though as they won the first 2 games of the series as the set ends up at 2 games to 1. They now have a 25-29 record and drop back into last place in the NL Central.
The offense really had their struggles in this one as they only collected 4 hits total. The only good game came from Brandon Phillips who hit his 10th homer of the year. He went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored. The RBI gives him 29 for the season and his batting average now stands at .295. Jerry Hairston had a good game as well going 2-for-4 with a run scored. There wasn’t much more production from the bats outside of these 2 players. The only other hit came from Adam Dunn who went 1-for-2.
Aaron Harang took the mound for the Reds and had a terrible evening. He pitched just 4 innings but gave up 10 hits, 6 runs, all earned and 1 homer. He was given the loss for the game bringing his record to 2-7 with a 3.81 ERA. Jeremy Affeldt came in for some relief work going 2 innings giving up just 1 hit but it was for a home run. His stat line looked like 1 hits, 1 run, 1 K and 1 homer.
A bad way to finish off a series that the Reds started so well. The bats went cold in this one after the team put together 2 consecutive 9 run innings. They will now open up a series with the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.
