The Reds lost their 4th game in a row on Thursday at the hands of the San Diego Padres with a final score of 8-2. The loss brings their record to 21-27 and keeps them in the cellar of the NL Central. Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 598th homer of his career keeping him just 2 away from the big 600.
The offense was really nonexistent after the 1st inning where they collected 2 runs off the bat of Griffey. The homer gave the Reds an early lead but they wouldn’t hold onto it for very long. In the 5th inning the Padres collected 3 runs getting and never looked back. They added 2 more in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th making the score 8-2 which ended up being the final. As said above Ken Griffey Jr. went deep for the 5th time this season bringing his total for his career to 598. In the game he went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. The hit brings his batting average to .253 this season. Adam Dunn also had a good game going 2-for-4 but he didn’t record a RBI or a run scored. As a team the Reds only recorded 5 hits to the 14 the Padres got. That’s just not going to cut it against any team and as we saw in this game, it wont cut it against a bad team like the Padres.
Aaron Harang took the mound for his ball club and had a shaky outing. He work 5 1/3rd innings allowing 10 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and 2 homers. He was given the loss for the game bringing his record to 2-6 and his ERA to 3.50. Bill Bray pitched 1 inning giving up 1 hit and 1 run. Mike Lincoln had a rough 2/3rds inning as he gave up 2 hits, 2 runs, all earned and 2 homers. His ERA jumped to 6.86 for the season.
Not a very good game for the Reds but at least Griffey got back on the homer track. The Reds will play the final 3 games of the series against the Padres this weekend.
