Reds Sweep Indians Over Weekend

The Reds took the series against the Cleveland Indians in a 3 games to 0 sweep in interleague play. The 3 victories bring the Reds record to 21-23.

Game 1 was as close as a game could be as the final score was 4-3. The Reds took an early lead getting 2 runs in the 1st and 1 more in the 2nd making the score 3-0. Cleveland answered in the 6th when they collected 3 runs of their own tying the score at 3. The Reds did take the game though when they scored the final run in the 8th making the score 4-3, which ended up being the final. Brandon Phillips had the best game for the Reds as he went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. The hit he recorded was a 2 run homer in the 1st inning. Adam Dunn also had a nice game going 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. His hit was also a homer that he hit in the 2nd but Dunn’s shot was a solo-homer. The 2 homers give both Dunn and Phillips 8 homers on the season. Johnny Cueto was given the start for the Reds and seemed to get back on the winning track. He pitched 6 inning giving up just 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and 7 K’s. Unfortunately he wasn’t given the win because the game was tied when he left the game. David Weathers did get the win thought as he pitched 1 inning giving up just 1 hit. His record is now 1-2 this season. Francisco Cordero came in to close out the game and did just that getting his 8th save of the season.

Game 2 was also a close one with the Reds getting the win with a 4-2 score. The win is the reds 5th in a row. The Indians took an early lead getting 1 run in the 2nd inning making the score 1-0. The Reds answered in the 6th getting 1 run of their own. Cleveland shot back adding another run to the score making it 2-1. In the bottom of the 9th the Reds rallied for 3 runs and the victory making the score 4-2. Adam Dunn once again came through for the Reds going 1-for-4 with 3 RBI and 1 run scored. The 1 hit was a 3 run shot in the bottom of the 9th that sealed the win for the Reds. The homer is his 9th of the season and it brings his RBI total to 25. Brandon Phillips also had a good game hitting 2-of-4 with 1 RBI. The RBI brings his total to 22 this season. Aaron Harang took the mound for the Reds and pitched a great game going 7 inning deep allowing 8 hits, 1 runs, 1 walk and 5 strike outs. He didn’t receive the win but Bill Bray did going 1 inning giving up no hits as he struck out 2. The win brings his record to 1-0 this season and it also makes his ERA 4.26.

Game 3 was yet another close game that the Reds were lucky to get out of with a victory. The 6-4 final score is the Reds 6th win in a row. Adam Dunn once again stepped up going 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored. 1 of his hits was a solo-homer in the 4th inning giving Dunn 10 for the season. Brandon Phillips had another good game also going 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. The 2 RBI are his 23rd and 24th of the season. Pinch Hitting 1st basemen Joey Votto hit a 2 run homer in the 6th inning going 1-for-1 with 2 RBI and a run scored. The homer is his 9th of the season. Edinson Volquez pitched another good game getting his 7th win of the season bringing his record to 7-1. He took the mound and worked 6 inning allowing just 4 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and 5 Ks. Francisco Cordero came in to close out the game and did just that getting his 9th save of the season striking out 2 in the process.

Overall it was a very good weekend for the Reds and an even better last 6 games. If they keep up this kind of play they will find themselves with a .500 record and maybe in the race for the NL Central.
