« Bronson Arroyo Picks Up First Win, Cardinals Go Down | Game 4 vs. Marlins Postponned »

Reds Take 3 Straight from Marlins

Cincinnati took the 3rd game of the scheduled 4 against the Florida Marlins on Wednesday 7-6. The win is the 3rd in a row against the Marlins and win on Thursday will complete the 4 game sweep. The Reds now have their record at 18-23 and despite the 3 game win streak they still find themselves in last place of the NL Central.

It seemed the Reds had this game in hand when they entered the 9th inning but the Marlins weren’t ready to give away a win. When the top of the 9th came Florida got 6 runs to tie the game and forced the game into extra innings. The Reds finally did win the game in the 10th inning but not before the Marlins put up a major fight. Ken Griffey Jr. had a good game for the club going 1-for-4 with 1 RBI and a run scored. He now has his batting average at a weak .250 and his RBI total is at 19. Adam Dunn also had a good game going 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored. The hit was a solo-homer in the 6th inning giving him 7 for the season. The best game seemed to come from Jerry Hairston who hit 3-of-4, including a double and a triple, with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. His bating average is at a staggering .357 and his RBI total is now at 6.

Bronson Arroyo took the mound for the Reds and pitched a great game, but because of the 9th inning heroics by the Marlins, he didn’t receive the win. He worked 7 innings giving up 5 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 5 strike outs. Jared Burton did get the win however because he was the last pitcher to throw before the Reds scored a run in the bottom of the 10th to win the game. The win brings his record to 2-1 this season and his ERA now stands at 4.58.

It would be great to see the Reds come out of a 4 game series with a sweep. Hopefully wins like that will get them back on the winning track and they can make it a race in the NL Central.  They will try to finish off the Marlins on Thursday night, attempting to complete the sweep.
