Reds Sign Corey Patterson, Jerry Hairston, Jr.

You’d think if the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs didn’t want a couple of guys, that it would make them somewhat undesirable but not for the Reds.  They signed both centerfielder Corey Patterson and utility guy Scott Hairston, Jr. to minor league deals and both will see time at camp.  I just knew it.  Bruce has what is hopefully a minor injury, and Baker goes out and signs a veteran to potentially take his place.  I’ll hold judgement until it actually happens, but there’s no way that you can tell me that having Corey Patterson out in centerfield is better then have Jay Bruce.

Anyway, both of these guys played for Dusty Baker and it’s not surprising he’d want guys he’s familiar with.  Still, having familiar players and having good players are two different things.

Adam Dunn continued his impressive spring yesterday.  The Reds lost in the tenth inning but Dunn went two for two with two RBIs.  Jeremy Affeldt gave up a run in three innings while Scott Sauerbeck was hammered for a trio of runs.  Today’s spring game is against the Indians.
