Catcher Paul Bako and left handed pitcher Scott Sauerbeck were both invited to the Reds spring training camp that opens up here in a couple of weeks. It wouldn’t surprise me if Bako gets a call up at some point during the season because it seems like at some point in time, a third catcher is needed. Sauerbeck is a Cincinnati native who’s spent his share of time coming out of a variety of major league bullpens. He had four very solid season with the Pirates to start his career but then he bounced around to three American League teams and never really caught on. He spent all of 2007 in the minors.

The most interesting non-roster invitee has to be Jay Bruce and a lot of eyes will be on the top prospect this spring. He’s a lot of people’s ROY of the favorite and I hope he doesn’t disappoint.
