For once I can see why sports figures are bugged so much by the media. Reporters just won’t leave Junior Griffey alone about the move to right field. They keep testing him to see if he’ll crack and start to complain about it. To his credit, he’s stood by the party line. He went into the clubhouse without talking to reporters after his last game, however.
Of course he’s irritated about the switch (so quit asking him about it). It’s a slight demotion. How would you feel if you were moved from a premiere project at work to different project that was still important but not the most high profile? Imagine you were told that the switch was made because the other person was faster at their job and probably a better fit for the organization? Sure you want the company to do well, but it’s going to piss you off. You’ve been the star employee since you started working for this company. Now the company has acknowledged that your skills are slipping. The company also thinks you get injured too often using the three-hole punch.
As an added bonus, there are reporters asking you about the job switch as you leave the office and head to your car. How long will it take before you snap and say how irritated you are? So for the sake of Junior, enough with the questions and discussions about the move to right field. I know Spring Training is long and you’re running out of things to write about, but move on!
