Josh Hamilton, the rule five pickup that is making Wayne Krivisky look pretty smart again, was back in the lineup as he recovers from shin splints. The kids been mashing the ball and with Griffey still not recovered from his latest ailment, you could be looking at your starting centerfielder. If this kid does anything this year, you’re definitely looking at one the biggest come back stories in a while.
The Reds still have the best spring record and they stand at 13-3. They took care of business today against the Red Sox in a solid start by Kyle Lohse, who threw five shutout innings in which he gave up three hits with three strikeouts. Chris Denorfia scored both runs for the Reds and he hit his first homerun of the spring.
Adam Dunn has nothing to apologize for all of those strikeouts. While he’d be even better without some of them, he’s still a prime time hitter with them and is the best player on the team. He continued to show what he can do and he’s now 13 for 29. Oddly he’s only walked three times and he’s struck out nine times but you can’t argue with a .448/.515/.690 line. Hopefully he’ll continue to rake and he’ll get Mike Schmidt to shut his mouth.
Two weeks until the real games start. The Reds face an uphill battle, but I’m still stoked.
Oh yeah, Shawn Weaver has moved. Or at least duplicated himself. His old Reds blog is still up and running but he’s also taken over at MVN. Stop by and say hello because he’s projecting what he thinks some of the prospects are going to do. And speaking of prospects, I have some news in that regard coming up soon. Let’s just say I’m expanding my horizons.
