Last week, ESPN.com reported about how Mike Schmidt sounded off about Adam Dunn (and Pat Burrell) and his propensity to strike out. Schmidt called Dunn mediocre and apologized for it on Monday. But I agree with him. Dunn to his credit acknowledged that he shouldn’t be whiffing as much at the plate but said he didn’t appreciate the reminder from Mike.
For starters, this is the first time I’ve ever heard Dunn lament that he’s not making much contact outside of home runs. I think I sometimes read too much into his body posture and apparent attitude toward the game and think he’s indifferent. I believe I’ve referred to it in the past that I feel he’s playing the game as though it were a church softball league. I guess you take the good and the bad with him since he does produce runs. But 190 strikeouts is a mind-boggling stat.
The Reds kept their perfect spring 2007 training record intact by tying the Yankees 1-1 yesterday. Sometimes when you tie, you really win.
