The Reds won for the eighth time in nine games with a big ninth inning that put the game away. With the scored tied 3-3, the Reds scored four runs in the top of the ninth.
Joe Morgan had a big day. He went two for four with a homerun, a double, two runs and an RBI. The homerun was the 19th of the season for Morgan. Dave Concepcion drove in two runs and Pete Rose and George Foster both had two hits, a run and an RBI.
Santo Alcala went five innings and didn’t get a decision. He gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks. Pedro Borbon pitched two perfect innings to keep the score tied and Rawly Eastwick held the Dodgers to a single run in two of innings of work. He improved to 8-3 on the season.
Dodgers starter Rick Rhoden was a perfect 9-0 heading into this game and the Reds handed him his first loss.
