Man, this team is frustrating. The St. Louis Cardinals can’t win. They’ve lost five straight and eight of their last team. Problem is, the Reds have lost five straight and seven of ten so at the end of the day, we’ve picked up a whopping one game on the Cards, while every other team in the National League picks at our Wild Card chances. By the way, we now tied with Diamondbacks.
I’d say Tuesday’s game was ugly, but they were all ugly. Bill Bray, one of our golden child relievers who’s worth a position player, gave up a hit, a walk and three runs. Of course none of them hit his ERA because there was an error in there. Adam Dunn hit homerun number 32 and David Ross went yard as well. Brandon Phillips had three hits. Bronson Arroyo started and while he didn’t get a decision, he was hardly stellar.
Ramirez got knocked around on Wednesday. He gave up five runs in only five and two thirds innings. Ken Griffey, Jr., Scott Hatteberg and Royce Clayton all hit homeruns. Royce Clayton hits homeruns? Wind must have been blowing out.
Then we ran into some 1990s incarnation of Greg Maddux. He and some relievers held the Reds to a measly two hits in a rain delayed game. Eric Milton was actually solid but he drops to 7-7.
Next up is a three game series against the Braves. The Braves are kind of on the cusp of contending for the Wild Card, so it’d be nice to just bury them here and now.
