Reds Sweep Doubleheader Over Padres, Win Third Straight Game

July 30, 1976 at Riverfront Stadium 

Reds 13, Padres 8  (64-28)

The Reds scored 13 runs in the first three innings as they blew out the Padres in the first game of their Saturday doubleheader.  Johnny Bench had four RBIs and Cesar Geronimo drove in three.  Joe Morgan scored three times despite getting only one hit.  He walked twice and Pete Rose also scored three times.

Don Gullett only made it through two innings and he was replaced with Manny Sarmiento, who made his major league debut.  He gave up two runs (both unearned) on five hits and two walks but he notched his first career win.  Pedro Borbon pitched the final four innings en route to his fourth save of the season.

July 30, 1976 at Riverfront Stadium 

Reds 4, Padres 2  (65-28)

Johnny Bench and George Foster each homered and drove in two runs to lead the Reds to a sweep of their doubleheader with the Padres.  The Reds were actually outhit 10-6 but made their baserunners count.

Gary Nolan got his tenth win of the season with the complete game.  He gave up two runs on ten hits with four strikeouts.
