Alright, I don’t know what’s worse, that the Reds made that horrible trade, or that they’re 4-0 since making the trade. I know, I’d never root against the Reds but I’m still preturbed not seeing Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez in the box score.
On Thursday, Eddie Guardado picked up his first save as a Red. This was after Jason Stanridge gave up four runs in the top of the ninth to make things interesting. Adam Dunn drove in two and scored two and Juan Castro makes me look bad by hitting his second homerun of the season and driving in three runs. Ken Griffey also went yard with his 19th and Eric Milton improved to 6-4. He only gave up one homerun.
Friday was a good old fashioned pitchers dual. Aaron Harang went head to head with Jason Jennings and he came out on top with a save. The only run was given up by Gary Majewski, who better shape or continually be ridiculed on this blog. Adam Dunn, who gets a mention in every game recap because I like him so much, went two for four with a run and an RBI. Rich Aurilia scored the other two runs. Aaron Harang struck out seven in seven shutout innings.
Yesterday was more solid pitching. Bronson Arroyo threw seven shutout innings before yielding to that new and improved pen. This time, Majewski gave up two runs and the lead (yeah, he was worth two starters) but Bill Bray pitched a shutout ninth and picked up the win because Chris Denaforia had a two run walk off single to win it in the ninth for the Reds. Adam Dunn had a single.
Today, Adam Dunn hit homerun number 30. Elizardo Ramirez threw six decent innings, but it was Todd Coffey who picked up the win. Guardado gave up a run in the ninth but still picked up his third save of the series. Rich Aurilia drove in two runs and Edwin Encarnacion scored twice.
Unfortunately, the Cardinals have caught fire and have won seven straight so we’re still four games back. Good news is, we now have a nice 2 1/2 game lead for the Wild Card. It’s all because of that middle relief!!!! Blah. I just hope this team proves me wrong.
