Reds Lose Game in Ninth Inning to Phillies

June 23, 1976 at Riverfront Stadium

Phillies 4, Reds 2  (42-26)

Rookie starter Santo Alcala saw a nice start go to waste as the Phillies edged the Reds.  The Reds offense only put two runs on the board off of Phillies starter Steve Carlton.  One of those was a solo homer by George Foster, his sixteenth homerun of the season.

Alcala gave up only two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Pedro Borbon gave up the lead in the ninth and he dropped his first decision of the season.
