Reds End Skid, Win 40th Game

June 19, 1976 at Veteran’s Stadium

Reds 4, Phillies 3  (40-24)

It took the Reds four chances, but they finally won their 40th game of the season.  They got off to a nice start against Phillies’ starter Steve Carlton by scoring single runs in the first three innings.  The Phillies answered with two in the third and then tied the game up one run in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, George Foster led off the inning with a triple.  Then Tony Perez drove him home with a sac. fly to right field.

Rawly Eastwick threw two perfect innings to close out the game.  He struck out three and earned his eighth save of the season.  Gary Nolan improved to 7-3.  He gave up three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.  Dave Concepcion went three for four with a run and an RBI.
