Ken Griffey Wins Game for Reds in Bottom of the Ninth

June 14, 1976 at Riverfront Stadium

Reds 3, Cubs 2  (38-22)

A walk off RBI single by Ken Griffey put this game away as the Reds came from behind to top the Cubs.  The Reds got on the board in the third on Dave Concepcion’s homerun in the bottom of the third.  Gary Nolan gave up two runs in the fifth, but the Reds tied things up when George Foster went deep in the bottom of the seventh.

In the bottom of the ninth, Dave Concepcion singled to lead things off.  He moved over to second on Eddie Armbrister’s bunt and then Pete Rose was given a free pass.  Then Griffey came through with his clutch single to end the game.

Nolan went the distance and he improved to 6-3 on the season.  He gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
