National League Championship Series Game 2
October 5, 1975 Reds 6, Pirates 1 Reds Lead Best of Five Series 2-0
The Reds came within a game of going to their third second World Series in six years by rolling over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The home team didn’t have to wait long as the Reds got to starter Jim Rooker early. In the bottom of the first, Pete Rose singled and Joe Morgan popped out to the shortstop. Johnny Bench followed that up with a strikeout and then with two outs, Tony Perez came up huge by going yard to make it 2-0.
The Pirates answered with a run in the fourth, but 2-1 would be the closest this game would be. In the bottom half of the inning, George Foster, Dave Concepcion and Ken Griffey rattled off consecutive singles to put the Reds up 3-1. With Concepcion on second and Griffey on first, the two Reds did a double steal and moved to second and third. Cesar Geronimo flew out to left and then Fred Norman hit a sacrafice fly to score Concepcion. Pete Rose flew out to right to end the inning, and the score was 4-1.
In the sixth inning, Ken Griffey singled, then stole both second and third base. Cesar Geronimo walked and then reliever Ken Brett balked to score Griffey. The Reds added one final run in the seventh when Tony Perez singled home Joe Morgan.
Fred Norman walked away with the win. He pitched six solid innings, giving up only one run on four hits. Rawly Eastwick was exceptional as he threw the final three innings and gave up only one hit.
