Reds Start West Coast Trip With Loss

August 1, 1975 Dodgers 5, Reds 3 (69-38)

Despite a five hit game by Pete Rose, the Reds dropped their series opener in Los Angeles. Rose doubled twice and singled three times, but was driven in only once. Johnny Bench was two for four with a two run homer to account for most of the remaining Reds offense as they were held in check by Don Sutton.

Jack Billingham threw a nice game but wouldn’t bring home the win. He went seven innings and gave up only two runs on six hits. Pedro Borbon took the loss when he gave up a two run walk off homer to Ron Cey in the bottom of the tenth.
